Splice Sounds – Umru Sound Cache Vol.3 (WAV)

The 22 year old musician from Umru Brooklyn is back with the third part of the sound cache series. Umru entered the pop zeitgeist with his first production of the 2017 Charli XCX Pop 2 mixtape, who at 18 was hired by A.G. Cook to co-produce the main track “I Got It”. This quickly led Umru from high school and online music circles to join XCX’s concerts on tour across the US and Europe and began collaborating with some of pop’s most forward-thinking artists.
The release of his debut EP “search result” on Cooke’s PC Music label showcased his strength in merging intense, somatosonic production with the earworm performance of a range of proto-hyperpopular vocal talents including Laura Les (of 100 gecs) and Lewis Grant. The umru sound cache sample pack has become a staple among modern producers. His latest work includes producing Dorian Electra, Rebecca Black, Tommy Cash and Fraxiom, as well as voicing artist Hayden Dunham’s performance at MoMA PS1.
Although Umru started out in Soundcloud’s beat and bass scenes where he created “produced music” focused on sound design rather than songwriting, he became a producer. Today he focuses most of his releases on collaborations with vocalists.
He shared: “Most of the material for my kits comes straight from projects I started – I do a lot of sound design work in the writing or production process rather than sit down for individual samples and I think it ends up being the best stuff that , as I already know, can be used in the context of a song. Sure, I have hours of completely random harsh noise sound design, but I’ll even try to shape it for specific purposes like risers or kicks. If it’s something I find helpful or inspirational for myself, I assume others do too.”
Demo track by William Crookes, Underscores, Petal Supply, Fraxiom and Kai Whiston
